Identity theft insurance can provide financial compensation to victims of identity theft crime victims for the cost of restoring their identity and repairing credit reports.

Typical expenses covered include:

• Wages lost from having to take time off deal with fraud, usually capped at a certain weekly value for a limited period.

• Costs relating to reapplying for loans that were previously denied owing to false information.

• Reimbursement of telephone costs when dealing with financial institutions,  law enforcement bodies and merchants relating to the crime.

• Help with legal costs such as attorneys/lawyers, notary charges and mailing costs.

Some insurance companies include identity theft insurance as part of their insurance policy.  It is also possible to obtain such insurance separately for a modest cost per year.
